Where to find fresh sourdough in Grays Harbor County
If you've been searching for real sourdough around Aberdeen, Hoquiam, Montesano, or Ocean Shores, you've probably noticed something: the grocery store shelves are full of "sourdough" that's mostly regular bread with flavoring, and the nearest artisan bakery storefront is a long drive away. The good news is that Grays Harbor has fresh, naturally fermented sourdough — you just have to know where the bread actually is.
Saturdays: the Ocean Shores City Market
During market season, our stand at the Ocean Shores City Market is where you'll find our full lineup — sourdough loaves baked that morning, plus whatever else came out of the oven that week. Every loaf is mixed, shaped, and fermented by hand in our home bakery in the Aberdeen Gardens area, over the course of a full day. (Curious why it takes that long? We wrote about it.)
One honest warning: bread at a market stand sells out. The people who never miss out are the ones who preorder — we bake their loaves to order and set them aside with their name on them. Preorders close Wednesday at 8 PM before each Saturday market.
Montesano: Lavender & Fir
East county folks don't have to drive to the beach. Select Rustic Sweets & Treats goods are also available at Lavender & Fir in Montesano — the roadside market where we sold at our very first market days back in 2025. We have a soft spot for the place; it's where we found out this county actually wanted our bread. Selection there varies week to week, so check our Facebook page for what's currently stocked.
Aberdeen & Hoquiam: preorder pickup
If you're in the Aberdeen–Hoquiam area, the simplest route to a fresh loaf is the preorder form. Tell us what you want, and pick it up at that week's market — the form lists the pickup spot each week. No lines, no gambling on what's left at the stand. Special occasion, holiday, or mid-week craving? Message us on Facebook and we'll be straight with you about whether we can fit it into the bake schedule.
How to spot the real thing
Wherever you buy your bread, here's the test we'd give any loaf: read the ingredients. True sourdough is flour, water, salt, and starter — nothing else. If the label runs ten ingredients deep, or lists yeast and "sourdough flavor," it was made in hours, not the better part of a day. Around here, the real thing comes from small bakers, and we're proud to be one of them.
We'd love to be your bread people. Come find us Saturday — or better yet, have a loaf waiting for you.
