Meet Joshua & Heather

We're Joshua and Heather, the two people behind Rustic Sweets & Treats, a cottage bakery in the Aberdeen Gardens area.

This wasn't something we planned years in advance. In 2024, we started making sourdough for our own table. We shared a few loaves with friends, they kept telling us we ought to sell them, and eventually we listened.

People sometimes ask who does what around here. The honest answer is: both of us, all of it. Feeding the starter, shaping loaves, running the stand — we trade off and work as a team, and after this many bakes together we don't need to talk much to know whose turn it is.

Our first markets

Our first real markets were at Lavender & Fir in Montesano in 2025. We sold out all six market days, which made us realize there might really be room for our little bakery in this community. That was when we decided to treat it as more than a hobby.

How we bake now

These days, our baking week begins well before Saturday. We feed the starter, mix and fold the dough, shape every loaf by hand, let it ferment slowly, and bake it in our home bakery.

We have a larger mixer and a stone oven now so we can make enough bread for market, but the bread itself is still made with the same simple ingredients and patience as our first loaves. We can just make more of it now. Mostly. (If you're curious about the details, here's what goes into every bake.)

Life at Wishkah Acres

Our home is also Wishkah Acres, our small poultry farm. When we're not working with dough, we're usually tending chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, and the rest of the farm crew — including a livestock guardian dog and several cats who prefer supervisory roles. We sell farm-fresh eggs direct from the farm, too.

The farm even finds its way into the bakery. It's where names like Cluck'n Crunch, Country Cubs, and Cow Cud come from.

How we found our home here

We moved from Southwest Florida to Western Washington in 2021, bringing our kids, animals, and eventually a sourdough starter along with us.

Grays Harbor has become home. One of our favorite parts of running the bakery is seeing familiar faces at the market and knowing who each week's bake is for.

Come say hello

During market season, you'll find us at the Ocean Shores City Market, with select goods also available at Lavender & Fir in Montesano. Check our homepage or Facebook for the current week's schedule and preorder details.

Come say hello when you see us. We're always happy to talk about bread, farm life, or whatever's coming out of the oven next.

Fresh for Saturday's market
